What Cats Really Think of Us

Yeah, we are basically just big cats that share food (and clean the cat box, and chase off unfriendlies, and pick up beheaded mice).

I'm not sure I agree with the 85% statement, but have no facts or figures to back it up. My thought is that a whole lot of people don't bother with spay/neuter, but the tomcat the females mate with aren't necessarily feral, just belong to an owner that doesn't see a need to neuter a cat that can't become pregnant.

Companion Dogs

There are companion dogs, then there are companion dogs for other animals. In this case, cheetahs. It seems that alsthough they are the fastest animals on the planet, cheetahs are also very nervous. In steps the companion dog who becomes a trusted buddy and protector. Very interesting article and full of surprises. I won't ruin all the good stuff, but who would have thought that a 40 pound dog would be the boss in his relationship with a 100 pound animal that can speed up to 60 mph in 3 steps (3.4 seconds - faster than any other car in the world)?

Maybe Big Foot Does Live

and is being mis-identified by conservation workers.

What am I talking about? It seems that a whale, of which scientists have never seen alive, are still with us (or at least were a couple of years ago). The proof; two spade-toothed beaked whales that beached themselves two years ago that were mis-identified by conservationists and buried. The only reason we now know the truth is because routine samples were taken and have finally been analyzed.

Earthquake

I think we just had an earthquake. About 10 seconds of the house shaking, with a loud rumbling before, during and after. No big trucks going by - I looked out the window to see.

UPDATE 2 minutes later: SIL confirmed that they felt in in Francestown.

UPDATE 2: Reported it at the usgs.gov. TV is just reporting a 4.5 event centered at the NH/Maine border.

Wishing for A Christmas Comet?

Looks like those in the Northern hemisphere will be treated to Comet ISON passing a lot of gas, er, passing by with a great gas tail to light up the sky. Even if it is a spectacular as they are predicting, it will be cloudy here for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after, if it is anything like it has been this month. As long as the clouds aren't dishing out the snow like they have been dishing out the rain, I guess I'll be good.

CF Ride For the Cure 2012 Update

The Cystic Fibrosis Ride for the Cure has been postponed until October 14, 2012 because of expected rain. There are several departure points Isee link) for the eventual destination of Gunstock Mountain.

Last year it was a wild ride from the departure point in Manchester. I think we will try the one that leaves from Freedom Cycle in Concord (which wasn't a choice last year). They have a "leisurely ride" leaving at 9. The "direct ride" leaves at 10. The leisurely ride sound more our style. If that turns into something we aren't comfortable with, this time we will stop and catch up later at Gunstock.

Ocean Circles

Via Scott, comes the facinating discovery that there are sea "crop circles". After much filming, they determined what was making them. That is one determined little guy!

Holy Flying Ninja

If I live long enough, I might to get to see, and ride on, this cool looking airplane - it is projected to be a reality in 20-30 years.

This ninja star-style airplane concept has won $100,000 from NASA. Which means they have given enough to make a whole bunch of drawings and a 1/200000 size model. I'm sure if the idea is sound, the young man will recieve monies from private companies.

Hovering Around

I just know there would be a problem of texting while flying if these became standard on the roads!

Hey, and the definition of a bike (at least as far as NH is concerned), is that it has 2 or 3 wheels. Don't see no wheels, so don't go calling it a bike.
