NOTE: This was created on Sunday, May 25 but would not publish.
It would be great if we got even a little sun sometime this month. Technically, we got clear skies on 5/1/25, but after 24 days of dreary whether, I would like something better. It would be great if NH didn't climb in the ranking after reaching 4th rainiest May on record (since sometime in 1860's I believe).
It would be great if I could turn off the pellet stove and we no longer made record low, highs (I believe we've had 3 of those). It would be great not mowing wet grass and my pants being wet up to the knees by the time I'm finished. It would be great to be able to clean out the gardens. It would be great to have been able to see at least some of the nocturnal celestial events that happened this month. It would be great for my solar panels to be put to good use (technically they are producing, just at about half of what is normally produced this time of year).
I detect a note of frustration - well earned. Those are some cool (not, cool) highs throughout your state, Bogie.
In the past three days we have finally received detectable rain. I do not understand the weather people's reporting, though. Several days ago, reporting upon the slight rain that had occurred in the watershed for Lake Cheney (as you know, the source of most of our water), we were told that the rain made little/no difference to the lake level. It had moved from being 8 feet below normal to 7.8 feet. Then, last night, after 2" - 3" of rain throughout the watershed, they marveled that the lake was now at 7.7 feet below normal. Of course, given a couple of days, the drainage in the watershed may move that marker even more.
I had installed a new, cheapy rain gage which has become useful in the past three days. I just emptied it: 3.4" in that time - and now we are getting sprinkles. (I need to find a good rain gage like the one we had until the rain/freeze cycle spelled its doom a couple of months ago.
