Yesterday I noticed and extremely late day lily over by the front door. That entire bed is covered by the regular orange ditch lilies, and all of them had gone by and dropped all the old flowers a couple of weeks ago, so it really stuck out. Since I rarely use the front door, I decided to go take a look and found this - which must be a natural hybrid since I didn't plant it.
Pictures of what I believe the parent lilies were for reference (sorry, you don't get a pic of the orange ditch lily - because, Typepad). With the ruffling of the petals on the above lily, and the downward curl of the petals like a ditch lily does (whereas the petals on the yellow are not curled down), I believe it is a cross between the ditch lily and the yellow lily.
Well, Typepad won't let me load anymore pictures (it has taken me 10 minutes to get this far (and this is an even different issue than I've had in the past - it doesn't even try to grab th pictures at all or give me any errors). Since pictures is what this post is all about, I guess you don't get to see them until such time as Typepad decides to play nicely.
(A bit later) - the standard ditch lily that I believe is the other half of paternity of the flower at the very top.
Joe Pye weed is flowering at the culvert on the south side of the yard. I planted that in the shade garden when I first put it in, then I think I forgot about it and kept pulling it (when I used to try to keep control of that area) - so it decided to grow in the ditch. And, apparently I exhausted Typepad, because it won't let me do more pictures. I swear, if I weren't so lazy, I would find another host.
Pretty and interesting lily that you have produced. The color of your "ditch" lily is about the same as a daylily that I planted several years ago (and still have one or two clumps). I think they came from Wal*art but I have no idea what they are called. The only ones I noted were "Pardon Me" that I think I planted at the same time, but they are a darkish red.
Yeah, Typepad can sometimes suck. You've probably already tried everything that I've used, but here goes: save draft before each photo upload (been doing this for several months or a year?) and double click (instead of single click) on file I want to upload (recently). I've also discovered that, at times, in order to get a draft to save I must save it as a final posting, then go back and make it a draft. *sigh* What's a blogger to do?

Thanks for the tips. However, you are correct, I do all that you mentioned. So far I haven't had any issues saving drafts - KOW.

The Ditch lily is very common to find in garden centers as they are basically free (seriously, they go wild and multiply wildly around here. Sellers of the ditch lily call them Tiger Lilies usually to make them seem like a special flower. More ornate, named lilies that are sold spread less quickly in my experience. I would guess you actually got a hybrid if they haven't taken over (or they just don't do as well out west).
Same think this morning, Typepad won't even try to pull a picture after I click on it.

Probably a hybrid, but have given several clumps of it away and have transplanted what's left a couple of times.
BTW: We are on water-the-lawn restrictions, here. (So would Dudette be.) One day per week 10p-10a. Our day is Friday. HH finally agreed to doing something about all of our grass. Thinking rocks in front (much like ABQ) and Buffalo grass in back. Maybe, now, Kevin won't give me such a hard time (he wouldn't install Buffalo for us, before) but I've not checked with him. If he can't/won't do Buffalo, will check with other companies.

Buffalo grass looks like a good idea for drought prone areas like yours.
