Last weekend, while the weather was warmer and we had some actual sunshine, I decided to wash the curtains from the front bedroom. Before washing, I looked at the cleaning care tag, and it said Dry Clean Only.
Well, that wasn't going to happen. First, because I'd have to travel 30 miles to get to a dry cleaner. Second, because I was pretty darn sure the curtains would be fine.
So I loaded the curtains into the washer. Using cold water and the Delicates setting, I washed them
Then I put them in the drier on Low, Delicates, Less Dry settings and let her rip (because that is how I roll - LOL).
The drier set itself for just over 30 minutes with those setting. Once it was done, the curtains were still just a bit damp and I hung them back up to finish drying.
Happy to say, they are much cleaner, no worse for the wear and less a whole bunch of cat hair - the amount of hair in the lint filter of the drier was amazing.
I don't think that I've washed any curtains or drapes since people stopped smoking (or, at least, stopped smoking inside). The big problem I had with washing the drapes on Vesta was getting them all ironed. That was hard work!

I didn't iron them - had no plans to. But, the fabric is satin-type, so hanging them still slightly damp took most of the wrinkles out.

Yes, your drapes are of a completely different fabric than were the Vesta drapes. Vesta drapes would have looked as if I had wrapped myself up and slept in them had they not been ironed! These days, a lot of people don't even own irons - lol.
Meant to say, before, that it hadn't occurred to me that you would have a lot of cat hair - but - it makes sense.
