Amazon sent me an email last night informing me that my Kindle Fire is going to "expire" at the end of this month. That means, although I can still read off it, I can't download books directly off the net. I knew the thing was old, and have been playing with the idea of getting a newer one, but didn't realize I have had it since 2011 (first generation).
Sure, I could download to my computer, transfer to a memory stick, then transfer to the kindle, but that doesn't work so well when I'm not around my computer (like on a bus going to the Bronx zoo - LOL). I'll have to see if they come up with a good deal, or I can find a refurb (actually I don't think they are expensive at all, so new is probably the way to go). Actually it would be nice to get one that I don't struggle as much to read in the sunlight - and here is my excuse.
It probably wouldn't lead to your financial ruin were you to treat yourself to new - just this once!

You are correct of course. I'll just wait until later in the month and that way I can cash in the "cash back" from my credit card. Not that that will offset the cost, but since I use that as my main credit card, and use it for nearly everything (paid off each month), it will take a bit off the total.
