I lived in Deering, NH for about 25 years. I attended almost all town meetings and knew of a lot of the people in town. In the last two weeks, the free local (weekly) paper, The Messenger, has had death announcements for two prominent residents.
The first one was Nancy Cowan. She was town clerk and tax collector for 15 years. She started the NH School of Falconry after she retired from town office. Interestingly, she was born in Kansas.
There was a facinating multi-page write up of her life in the newspaper below (pdf)

In this week's Messenger, a former neighbor, Ed Naile is deceased. I used to take care of his and his wife's animals when they were away. They had a dog, Mocha, along with sheep, sometimes chickens and sometimes goats.
The above is the total write up, but thought I would share the entire paper as well (pdf)
Messenger seems to be an interesting little paper, and talk about interesting, Cowan really did a lot, didn't she? I was interested to read that her husband had at one time been stationed at Naval Air Station Pensacola, at which I did my reserves drills while working at Tyndall AFB FL. Did she first pique your interest (when she was city clerk & tax collector in Deering) when you learned of her dog sled racing interests? She really lived!
BTW: Interesting that in an ad from a pharmacy, they gave a peek at information concerning the effects of taking statin drugs seemed to have on death rates, among those hospitalized with COVID-19.
Thanks for the links.

I didn't even know that Nancy worked with sled dogs until the article came out. I had to deal with her yearly when paying taxes (actually 4x/year - pay house taxes 2x, renew vehicle registrations 2x).
And, she was a fixture at the selectman's table during town meetings as she took minutes. She was also outspoken on articles being discussed when she disagreed with them board's recommendations. I was always fascinated that she worked with raptors and on a regular basis (at least weekly), I would pass their property on 149 where the sign and several flight cages were visible.
I don't usually pay attention to the pharmacy or dentistry columns/ads, but sometimes they do have interesting stuff. I had to go back to see what you were talking about.

As an "outsider" one notices stuff that one who is a regular reader ignores ; )
