Even after gettting 1.25" of rain last week, we are still in moderate drought. That is not surprising as, according to the local news, we were only ahead of average April moisture by 1/2" (and that was in Concord, where they got more rain than I did).
Being at about a 10" deficit to start the year out, that extra extra 1/2" is just a drop in the bucket. The accumulation in the rain gauge is from all week, in which we had three days of rain.
Friday I had to go up to Manchester and I saw the river had finally risen:
This is sad as usually the spring rise brings a hugely rushing river with those rocks in the river are easily covered and out of sight. There is a reason the foundation wall of that apartment building is so tall - it needs it for the spring flow. Picture from spring 2014, taken while I was walking Prince, that shows pretty much the normal spring flow (a bad year will see the water even higher).
I didn't think the apartment building's footing wall looked high enough until I came to the later photos. How old is that building? I think I recall seeing it; but, that could be a figment of my imagination.
Rushing waters are beautiful - as long as they aren't in my back yard, lol.

P.S. Someone up there needs to do some rain dancing for you.

That building is an old converted mill building from the mid 1800's. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contoocook_Mills_Industrial_District

Meant to add that we got another 1.25" of rain last week (it took 3 dayys of dreariness, but that is better than nothing. The swamp next door is still pretty dry. Although there is a bit of drainage into the ditch, not nearly what it would be if we weren't so behind on moisture. Some areas in NH were taken off the mild drought chart and are now at abnormally dry. But, that isn't in this area.
