Pre-Christmas Weekend

Today, while making wheat-free pie crust dough, I looked out the kitchen window and saw a bunch of purple finches invade the feeders. By the time I thought to get pictures, there were only two left. Of course they insisted on staying behind a feeder, so I couldn't get any good pictures of them.

However, I did get a couple of cooperative subjects:

As you can see, we should have a white Christmas, even if we don't get the storm predicted for Monday night.

Christmas Cookies

Nothing like getting home to a box on the porch - and the box is filled with homemade Christmas cookies from Cop Car! Although the pictures are horrid, the food is great!

There are Almond horseshoes (obviously not in a horseshoe shape), some kind of cookies that I can never remember the names to, and Fudge - lots of fudge. AND, not your ordinary fudge but things like Almond Joy fudge, Dark Chocolate fudge, Heathbar fudge, and Chery Cranberry Pecan fudge.

Rest assured that it is all delicious and very much appreciated!

Another Tree Comes Down

Several weeks ago Jimmy took down a couple of maples in his yard. They needed to come down before a big wind took them down, and WS was glad to help. Jimmy was just going to use the wood for his fire pit, but WS told him that we wanted the wood, and we had some pine trees that needed to come down - he could have that wood for his fire pit. So, WS got wood for us and BIL for next season.

Last weekend the weather finally cooperated so Jimmy and WS could take down the huge pine in front of the dog pen.

The placing was tricky as if it fell straight down the hill, the fence and one shed would get hit. If it fell the way it leans, it would hit the deck (and maybe part of the house). If it fell back (unlikely), it would take out the dog pen. If it fell at an angle to the right, it would take out the lean-to for the wood. Way to the right was a bunch of trees they didn't want it to get hung up in.

Obviously, they got it right - Jimmy is really good at this sort of thing, plus WS used the 4-wheeler to pull it in the correct direction. Great Job guys!

Pics to Get You Thru

I have been working so much that nothing else registers as being blog worthy. Poor WS has had to take on the majority of the housework during the week (laundry, dishes, filling inside woodrack, starting up woodstove, animals care at night), that I feel a little guilty. Normally, I would be taking care of most of the chores at least 3 days a week. The rest of the time we would split them up. But for the last couple of weeks I have been at work 11-12 hours, then add in the drive time and most of the time we don't even do dinner because bedtime is just an hour or so after I get home.

This post isn't supposed to be whining (I am enjoying work and glad to be working), but about how I have nothing to blog about. This post is supposed to be about sharing pictures I took in November and never got around to posting. So, on to the intended subject:

I think that pretty much makes up for not having anything to post about!

A Little Promoting

The best cook in our family has put out another cook book, European Tarts: Divinely Doable Desserts with Little or No Baking. There is also a great write up on her, her professional history, some family history, and the book. Part of the write up shares the fact that she and her husband recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary - WOW!

And, for a lady that is past retirement age (who clearly cannot slow down enough to retire), she is very communication savey. She has a blog, the Ardent Cook, a Face Book Page and I see she is on Pintenterest too.

If you love to cook, know someone who loves to cook, or are even interested in finding some recipes that make you look like a genius, while not having to kill yourself in the kitchen, pick up her book.
