The riding season is officially over. After the 2 feet of snow a couple of weeks ago, we weren't sure if it was over at that point. The next week we couldn't ride; we could get the bikes out, but getting them back into the shed would have been a huge issue. See, we have to turn the bikes around in the yard before backing them into the shed. That was not an option, since the yard was full of snow.
By last Monday, there was just enough clearing of snow in the yard that we could do the maneuvering that was needed. So, we both rode to work on Tuesday and Wednesday. Mornings were in the high 30's, and the afternoons were in the 50's. Thursday it was rainy. Friday WS rode his bike to the storage place, and I picked him up after work.
WS worked yesterday, and that is only a couple of miles from the storage place, so in the afternoon, I rode my bike to the storage place and dropped it off. WS picked me up, and that is that. No more riding until March, or April, depending on how severe the winter is.
This coming week it is supposed to get in the high 50's and low 60's. However, since we are leaving for Kansas 10 days towards the end of the week, we needed to get the bikes to storage while we were sure we still could do it safely and comfortably. It is possible that by the time we get back, there will be more snow on the ground or the temps will be too cold to comfortably ride the 32 miles to the storage place.
Now WS has room in the shed for the snow blower and other winter tools (they have been in the container up to this point). Next up, WS will be hoping for lots of snow so he can break out the snowmobile!
That is what's called "planning ahead"!
