After all the rain and the flooding last weekend, a lot of people at work said that I must be happy to see the end of the snow so I can get the bike out. Nope, can't even get to the bike. Why not? becfasue while everyone else was getting rain with just a bit of sleet, we were getting snow and sleet, with just a bit of rain.
We got 2-3" of snow/sleet mixed with a little bit of rain (very heavy to shovel off the deck and porch) on Sunday. Monday, while everyone else was enjoying temps in the 50's and rain, this is what greeted me when I got home:
Another inch or so of the sleet/snow mixture
I took the camera to work to show people the images above, and thought to snap a picture as I got home on Tuesday; again, while everyone was enjoying low 60's and high 50's, we were a high of 42)
Wednesday and Thursday, people were asking if I was getting out the bike in the next day or two - surely this weekend when it supposed to be so nice. Nope, they just don'e understand that we still have gobs of snow. the bike isn't coming out of the container for a while. Additionally, though most roads (including 149) have lost the majority of their frost heaves, our road is terrible to run with a 4 wheel vehicle and full of sand too. The pictures of the road were taken on Thursday.
The lower areas (parts that are wet and sandy) are anywhere from 8" to a foot lower than the center of the road.
Lots of sand and mud are on the road.
Yes, we actually live on a paved road, although it doesn't look like it.
Those pictures are only of the top of the road. This middle and portion by us are no better. No one on the road has gotten their bikes out yet. WS thought about picking his up out of storage yesterday, but decided against it as the conditions are too bad in our portion of the world.
That's okay, full insurance doesn't kick in until mid April, so there is no rush yet. I just wish everyone would quit bugging me about riding!
Spring is coming and that garden will soon come to life.. :D
