I rode to work every day last week but Friday (had errands to do). Wednesday morning was very foggy in spots. So, to set the scene, it is dark (sunrise is an hour off) and foggy, I am on Rt 13 doing somewhere around the speed limit (50 mph in that area). The road has fairly new tar on it, so is black.
By the time I saw the porcupine, I had no time to swerve (unless I had a wish for a really exciting ride), so made the decision to run over it. Oh, I didn't mention that it was already quite dead; stretched out across most of my lane. Ever hit a large porcupine on a motorcycle going about 50? You go airborn, just in case you were curious.
The bike landed, not gracedfully, but well enough that when I gave it gas it was happy to quit wallowing and get to the business of keepin' on keepin' on.
Evidence of the encounter.
Last year I ran over a dead racoon, this year a porcupine. I'm hoping that we don't go even larger next year!
WS is certainly glad he didn't have to run over the moose in the road the other day. Fortunately, it was just after he turned onto 149 from our road, so he didn't have any speed up. However, he did have to wait there until the big bull decided to take off into the woods.

Good grief! That would be a terrifying prospect - running into/over any critter while riding a motorcycle. I'm impressed that you were able to get through the raccoon and the porcupine. Tell WS that he showed the better part of valor in ceding way to the bull moose. Thankfully, you both show good sense!
