It has actually gotten into the 80's for the past week - well, from Sunday to Thursday anyway. That must have been our summer; now it back down ito the 70's with nights in the 40's.
Anyway, here is where we went Monday and Tuesday after work to cool off:
This would be part of Deering Reservoir - the dam is in the left quadrant and loks like a line of shrubs.
We are further out on the lake and you can just see the dam a ways behind the boat. For some reason, we had never realized how big the lake is; there is even water skiing. The only thing that keeps big boats from coming is the shallow boat ramp.
This is looking to the right, from where I took the last picture (with the boat a ways in front of the dam). If you look closely, you may be able to see the ducks in the distance. The land mass to the very left is one of the islands.
all of the landmasses (besides the hill in the horizon) are islands.
This split rock is behind the island on the left on the previous picture.
We stopped at a dock on one of the islands and picked blueberries.
The water is very clear and you can see a couple of feet down without any problem.
So, I'll bet you're asking yourself what we used to get out on the lake:
I know that is probably news to everyone, but we've had the canoe for 8-10 years.
WS was helping Harry move (one of the miriad of times) and the canoe was going to be tossed since it leaked. Being fibergalss, it was easily repairable, so WS scarfed it up.
The poor thing has laid out in the trees behind the dogpen all this time. A couple of weeks ago WS decided that he needed another project, and started patching anything that looked like it might leak. I must say, he did a mighty fine job as it was plenty water-tight the hours it has been in the reservoir. We had had to buy paddles and lifejackets, but for less than $60 total (we had coupons and hit sales of two-for-ones), we were ready to go out on the water.
I must say, I'm glad that WS went thru the effort - it was nice to get out on the cooler lake and very relaxing just to paddle around!
So you paddled your own canoe? The water up there would be a much more welcome medium than the water that the folks from around here use - mostly in Oklahoma, of course. Going out on your water could be habit forming!

The bottoms of our lakes and rivers are rock, so mud doesn't get stirred up and the water stays clear - unlike the waterways in your area.
