Check out this clock. Supposedly it was made by Polish students, but I didnt' check out to see if that was true.

Class Time For Both of Us

WS and I have spent the last day and-a-half  in class. We took a firearms class that earned us each an NRA Personal Protection in the Home certificate. The course also earns us the ability to apply for a carry permit in Massachussettes. A carry permit is required of non-residents just to transport an empty, dis-assembled firearm within the Commonwealth. A permit also enables us to avoid legal complications should an empty shell casing become enbedded in a jacket pocket or other article of clothing.

The first day of class was all lecture, presentations and handling practice. It was actually more interesting and less dry than it sounds. We had two special treats;

The second was a videotape of a training session by Massab Ayoob, a well respected author, firearms and self defense instructor, as well as the Director of the LFI. I had read articles by him in magazines and heard references to his expertise on forums, but had never realized that he is a NH resident.

Bird Count Total for 2009

Don't forget to submit your results for the Great Backyard Birdcount by March 1. This year, my results were pathetic. I am blaming the beautiful weather we had both during the birdcount and the week before. You know the birds are having a fine time finding food when even the Blue Jays wouldn't come get their daily allotment of peanuts! Anyway, here are my results:

• Chickadee - 6
• Goldfinch - 4
• Blue Jay - 1
• Red-Breasted Nuthatch - 1
• White-Breasted Nuthatch (there were probably actually 2, but we only saw 1 at a time)
• Hairy Woodpecker - 1
• Downey Woodpecker - 2
• Pine Siskin - 3
• Redpoll - 2
• Tufted Titmouse - 1

A total of 21 birds seen over a 4 day time period. Couldn't have had the birdcount a couple of weeks ago when I had around 20 pine siskins alone!

Bird Counts

The New Hampshire Audubon Winter Bird Survey is happening this weekend.So if you live in NH - go count birds today.

The Cornell University Great Backyard Birdcount is also happening (sorry, no direct links seem to be working at this time) and goes on thru Monday.

Last week I applied for, and last night received, my CCP. Potential transportation issues to the range have been nullified.

Contacting Your Congress

After complaining about not being able to contact Senator Jeanne Shaheen to let her know my feelings on the "stimulus" package, I finally found a helpful website that allowed me to send her a message.

Previously I had used this website, which also gives links to Representatives, and was helpful with 2 out of three of the Congressmen that I was trying to contact. There is also another website that is helpful, however, it too does not have complete information for Shaheen.

Just thought I I would give you places to look in case anyone else was having trouble contacting their representatives in Washington.

Contacting NH Representatives

I am severely disappointed, let me tell you why:

I am trying to write my congressmen (and women) and representatives to let them know my feelings on the "stimulus" package. I get on the government website that gives me ways to get a ahold of my state representatives and find the following:

1. Judd Gregg is not representing NH, even though he is not part of the President's cabinet yet.
2. Jeanne Shaheen has no way for me to get ahold of her electronically unless I'm looking for a job.
3. Paul Hodes is the only representative that I can get ahold of (not that I hold out much hope of his listening to me, being of the President's party).

Thanks (not) to Judd and Jeanne for not representing their constituants. 

Kudos to Paul for at least giving me the opportunity to let him know my stand on issues.
