Sunday I filled the wood rack on the deck and performed a "burn-in" run on the stove (a short warm up to drive moisture out of the soapstone). We have had the stove going every night this week and will have it going during the weekend. Nights have been down in the low 20's and days have stayed in the 30's.
Winter is definitely trying to make its presence felt and the ski areas are responding by making snow. I believe one ski area opened yesterday with limited trails. We haven't seen any natural snow, but that is because we haven't seen any moisture (except the heavy frost on windshields).
Here is what the animals think of the cold weather:
Cold weather makes Missy's joints ache - her knees aren't what they should be; aspirin for breakfast and dinner help with that:
Prince is waiting for the wood stove to get started - he luxuriates in the heat from about 3" away (I swear one day he will just spontaneously combust):
And a profile, just for the "awe" factor:
Shadow goes down to the cooler basement and snuggles up to the blanket on the bed:
Tory relaxes on Mom's lap, or knee, or whatever (I love this camera, I actually took these pictures myself from several inches away - unheard of with the old camera!):
Each of us deals with the encroaching colder weather in our own way, but somehow I don't think any of us do it with quite the aplomb of our pets!
I am really impressed with your handling of your new camera. You did so well with your film camera, but you're really having fun playing with the digital. Keep on truckin'.
