A couple of weeks ago, I was up in the middle of the night when I heard a rumble, then a bang, the house shook, then a fading rumble. The cat jumped off the bed and the dogs went running. I told WS that it sounded like an explosion down in Hillsboro, or maybe an earthquake. Guess it was an earthquake centered in Hillsboro upper village (notated as 25 km WSW of Concord -here is the map). About a month ago, an earthquake was centered in Bennington (another town that abuts Deering). And a couple of days ago, there was one on the seacoast - during the day so people noticed it.
As long as we don't get as active (or as intense anyway) as California, it's all good!
Wonder what the "bang" was--not a sound that I would associate with the earthquake, itself, at least. Keep 'em under 4.0, if you can!!

I think the bang was akin to a sonic boom. For the seacoast earthquake Police and Firefighters were looking for something that blew up (propane tank or some such)That seems to be normal for eathquakes around here.
