I wish I could show you pictures of the bear that visited the backyard last night, but you will have to wait until the roll of film is used up and developed. Karen and Jim were over at the time. I was doing the final prep work for dinner and I was keeping up a running commentary of the birds I saw at the feeders.
I got the plates and silverware out of the cabinet, was just getting ready to tell everyone to fill their plates, when I looked out the window and saw the bear stroll out of the woods. I said, "Bear," then continued, "don't make much noise, don't get the dogs excited, but come out here and see the bear." We watched the bear check out the thistle feeder (it is out on the clothes line and is my early warning system for bringing in the other feeders on the deck). Then, he strolled across the back yard, headed for the greenhouse, checked it out real quick, then mosied on into the woods.
Meanwhile, I had snapped several pictures. WS said he hoped the bear didn't get teh idea to come on the deck to get at the feeders. I replied that I planned on bringing them in, so he snapped more pictures while I went and got the feeders. Hopefully, it was light enough that the pictures will come out. I was dusk, and the bear was about 60 feet away so the flash probably wasn't effective. I believe that the pictures will be on the dark side, but the bear should be recognizable in the photos - we'll see.
Anyway, I'll share a couple of pictures from the latest roll of film:
The greenhouse was chock-full a couple of weeks ago:
This is looking to the right side
Now, imagine that there is a large bucket of 3 bare-root trees, soaking in water, in the center isle. Now, imagine an octoganal planter, 18" across (planted with annuals of course), also sitting in the isle. That is what the greenhouse looked like last Sunday evening. It was supposed to frost that night, so I had to bring everything in. The trees still aren't planted since it has been in the 40's (41 was the high on Friday), and raining since Wednesday. I'll have to pot them up today - glad I saved all the pots from other trees!
Here are a couple pictures of one of the broad-winged hawks I saw last weekend:
That's it for the picture show this week. Hopefully soon I will have bear pics to share.
Great photos--evidence of your energetic approach to gardening and your skill at birdwatching (and gardening). Thanks for posting the photos.

Saw an indigo bunting yesterday - once in the morning and once in the evening. WS yelled at me to come see it both times (kudos to him!).

I'm so glad that we don't have to feed the bears here! I can deal with our smaller bandits, the raccoons and chipmunks and such. I don't know that I'd be happy to have to be bear savvy!
