Not much has happened this week; got up, went to work, came home, went to bed - repeat.
The cabinetry representative still has not called me; I still expect to get nothing from them but will go back up there next Friday (another 60 miles and 2 hours out of my day - for the 3rd time) to talk to the people at Home Cheapo about replacing my shelves.
During last weekend I ordered 3 10-packs of music CDs to supplement WS's endeavors to record a lot of our LP's. I ordered from a place that we get a lot of our electronics from because I am confident in the quality of their products. The price is always better than anyone else and they ship fairly quickly. I am always very pleased with their service - except this time.
This time, I opened the box and was shocked at the shape of the contents. 2 of the 3 10-packs had split and obviously everything had banged around; there was a whole lot of plastic from the CD cases all over the place. 1 of the 10-packs, miraculously, was in good shape. I will have to call them to get a return authorization, then I will have to find a UPS store since they won't pay for returns thru a 3rd party shipper.
Wednesday WS and I went to a town informational meeting about the tax rates. The town hall was overflowing with people; standing room only. There were representatives of the company that does the assessing as well as from the State Board of Land Appeals.
There will be no appeal of our land assessment - we are assessed at the new basic rate for 2 developed acres (we have 2.8 acres - so actually get off without paying for the extra partial acre. Developed land is assessed differently from undeveloped land. Because it already has well and septic system, 2 acres of land is basically twice as valuable as 2 acres of undeveloped land.
WS and I left after 2 hours since most people were there to argue their particular cases (which was not the intent of the meeting). Another good percentage of the people there were bent on blaming the selectmen for the tax rates and spending (selectmen do not set rates or approve spending), or had axes to grind with the assessing company. We had gotten the information we came for so saw no need to torture ourselves further.
If all the people that came to the informational meeting would come to the yearly budget approval meeting, we could probably defeat some of the spending issues - but I'm guessing that come March, there will only be a couple of new faces at the meeting.
