Probably the last pictures of my flower garden by the driveway for this year. The previous pics are here.
Here is what it looks like in later summer (August)
I did cheat a bit because from this view you get to see flowers from the gardens on both sides of the stone stairs, where previous pictures have just been of the right-side garden. However, all the phlox is on the left side, and I wanted to get it into the picture.
Part of the color in the right side of the garden is from Husker Red Penstemon Digitalis, which bloomed much earlier in the year. But, as the days get shorter and the nights get cooler, the leaves and seed pods start turning red (in fact, the picture below shows a pale version of what they are now - a deep, vibrant maroon).
Hope you enjoyed the flowers from this year's gardens!
The photo of the flowers flanking your front steps not only shows the flowers, but is beautifully composed. Well done! As to the digitalis: If the photo doesn't show deep maroon pods, what does it show?? I couldn't see much in the thumbnail, but the enlarged image showed pods that just could not be any more intense/deeply colored. Gorgeous!

They can - take my word for it (and where did the rest of the picture go in the enlarged photo?)
Wandering off in contemplative thought.
