So it's been a while since the bear did its damage and forced me to bring in all the feeders. I have finally gotten the film developed and thought I would share some of the pictures with you.
Here is a full-view shot of the tree, and the poor limb that got torn down, along with two of the three feeders that were involved.
This is how the bear got into the yard (and subsequently the dogs got out to roam the neighborhood for a short time).
The outside post was actually rotated and pulled enough that the concrete was pulled up out of the ground. The next post over wasn't so lucky though - it was broken:
This cast iron piece used to be an elaborate S-hook that held the heavy-duty, squirrel-proof feeder.
This would be the limb that the hook was on.
This would be the feeder that was on the hook that was on the limb, before everything got broken.
Apparently he could just reach the feeder with his paws; he yanked, and yanked and yanked until the hook straightened out and slid down to the crotch of the limb (it was about 4-5 feet out before then). Then he yanked some more until everything came down. After that, it ws just a matter of smooshing the feeder until it gave up all its goods.
The other feeder that was in the 1st picture (far left) was not hurt at all. I still use it on the deck (I take it in at night and put it back out in the morning). Go figure.
wow! and people here moan about cats trashing things!
