So I've been listening to all the back and forth on the undocumented, temporary, guest workers, illegal aliens. Then I hear about the freaking brainchild that "will deliver to the American people what they expect, what they deserve." No Bill, I think you have it wrong - it is what the illegal immigrants want, but not neccessarily what they deserve.
I expect you, as representatives of American Citizens and Naturalized Citizens (aka taxpayers and voters), to do what is right and quit rewarding the law breakers. What have you just told all the coworkers, who I have rejoiced with, and been exceedingly proud of, who have gone thru the system and become naturalized citizens? Why, you have told them that all their playing by the rules meant absolutely nothing. All their efforts in class (ESL, History etc.) were wasted. What are you telling all those people that have gone thru the effort, not to become a citizen, but to get, and keep, a current work visa? You've just told them that they shouldn't have stood in line, because the cheaters will end up with the prize anyway.
What have you told me? You have told me that the borders are meaningless and there is, and never will be, any security there. You have told me that I "will not do some work" even though you have no idea what kind of work that myself and WS have done - nor what I will do if neccessary. You have told us that although you federally support a minimum wage, that employers don't have to really pay it (after all, many of jobs Americans, of which it is said that we aren't willing to take, do not pay that much). You have told me that I don't count, only the illegals count.
Well, believe me, I have been keeping track and keeping score. I had to go back and do some research, but I was sure that we had been thru this before, and sure enough, Michelle Malkin had it all nicely summed up with even more than I remembered:
·The 1986 Immigration and Reform Control Act blanket amnesty for an estimated 2.7 million illegal aliens
·1994: The "Section 245(i)" temporary rolling amnesty for 578,000 illegal aliens
·1997: Extension of the Section 245(i) amnesty
·1997: The Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act for nearly one million illegal aliens from Central America
·1998: The Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act amnesty for 125,000 illegal aliens from Haiti
·2000: Extension of amnesty for some 400,000 illegal aliens who claimed eligibility under the 1986 act
·2000: The Legal Immigration Family Equity Act, which included a restoration of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty for 900,000 illegal aliens]
So, giving amnesty to illegals doesn't seem to help with the illegal immigration problem. Maybe we should try something else - like enforcing the laws we already have and deporting them whenever they are discovered.
And, I think it's pretty funny that people who do call for the enforcement of immigration rules, are called racist because "everyone knows" that we are against the Mexicans. Well, the US can somehow manage to try to enforce the rules for illegal Chinese immigrants. Why can't the rules be enforced for everyone? I want everyone to play by the rules; Chinese, Mexican, Italian, French, Indian (from India), Irish etc.
I think this pretty much sums up my feelings on two different fronts.
