• Believes gambling is an acceptable entertainment option
• Grew up within 50 miles of current home

In the next couple of years we may live within 10 minutes of a Walmart, Peanut butter languishes on the shelves until I throw it out because it finally went rancid. the only peanut butter we eat is in cookies (and we all know how often I don't do baking).

Narnia

A couple of weeks ago, while shopping at Sam's club, I noticed they had the C.S. Lewis Chronicles of Narnia series. As those were some of the hundreds of books I had to get rid of when we moved to New Hampshire, I bought the series on the spot (knowing of course, that it will take months before I get to it - but at least I have it).

This is how not-with-it I am, I had no idea why the Chronicles were out again. Even with it printed on the cover - I was only interested in the fact that it was actually the complete works of the Narnia Chronicles and not a cut-up version - so I didn't even notice it. It being, the a Disney Movie being released next month based on The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

The series I got at Sam's was presented in one huge volume and I noticed something that I hadn't remembered; that The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was the second item in the index, meaning it was the second book in the series.

Granted, I read that series som 30+ years ago, but I could have sworn that the first book I read in the series was The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, not The Magician's Nephew (which is presented as the first book). I thought I was just losing my mind as I was getting older.

Deb came to the rescue though and explained that LWW is the first book and pointed to a link explaining the reason that so many of us remember it differently.

When I do get around to re-reading the series, I will be doing so in the order that I remember it, not the new order.

Monarchs Hockey

Last night we went to watch our first Manchester Monarchs hockey game at the Verizon Wireless Arena. We figured they had been in NH for 5 years, we should at least see one game. The Monarchs are a farm team for the Los Angeles Kings, but even though they are a rival team to the Boston Bruins, New Hampshire hockey fans have taken them to heart (looking at the transactions page, shows that the team loans players to other AHL and NHL teams all the time, so I guess it is sort of immaterial who the parent club is).

It was a great first game to see; we not only won 5-1, but three rookies made their first professional goals. We had good seats only 6 rows up from the ice and all the fans were well behaved while being loudly supportive of our team. It is evident that a Monarchs game night is very much a family night, with children everywhere and the intermissions filled with things for kids to do.

We had such a good time that we will definitely be back to see Monarchs hockey.

We'll also have to try out the UNH Wildcats Hockey game in January. They are a school on the seacoast, so it is a bit of a drive and we wouldn't normally see them. But, they are playing Darmouth at the Verizon Wireless Arena in January, on a Saturday no less, so we'll get the chance. Then next spring we'll have to see the Manchester Wolves AF2 Areana Football team in action.

Geeze - I think we are turning into old foggies right before your very eyes!

Cancelled

On Wednesday, I cncelled our TV Guide subscription via the internet. They knew exactly why I was cancelling as when I clicked on the "Cancell" button, a message popped up that they were "sure if you give the new format some time, you will grow to love it." Oh, and by the way, they would gove us an extra 8 issues for free.

No thanks, it's useless the way it has been made over.

Record Recording

Mount Washington has gotton almost 1/4 of it's snowfall for the season already and Some ski resorts are thinking of opening early.

At Mt. Washington, weather observers reported several records broken — most precipitation in October (27.85 liquid inches and counting); most snow in a single 24-hour period in October (25.7 inches on Oct. 26) and snowiest October (72 inches in the last 12 days).

. . . Road trips were not easy yesterday at the northern tip of the state. In Colebrook, road crews had to stop plowing to take chain saws to downed trees.

Meanwhile, those of us at lower altitudes are happy to escape this storm with only 3 1/4" of precipitation. Whatever snow fell at the Bogie household melted by the time I got home from work.

Even before Tuesday, Concord had broken the all-time monthly precipitation record of 10.97 inches, set in September 1888, the weather service said.

Hopefully we will get a chance to dry out before winter really sets in.

Thanksgiving Jingle

Here is a nice Thanksgiving song that is sure to become a classic. Yes, turning on your speakers would be a good idea to hear the singing (it's not quite the same to just read the words at the bottom).

Skills Testing

Here is a nice Halloween skills test that is short but effective. I found that my drawing skills weren't so good, but some of my reflexes are excellent. For best affect, turn on your speakers - don't get frustrated, the verbal instructions don't start until the 3rd round or so.

Record Breaking Month

As of around 3 PM on Sunday, it has been the snowiest October on record for Mount Washington. We still have the Nor'easter to get thru, so the snow ain't done yet up there.

Meanwhile, the lower portions of the state have seen the most rainfall on record for October. Here at the Bogie House, we have seen at least 15" of rain (just from what I can remember - and I haven't looked at the rain gage from last night). We normally get just over 3" and the previous record was between 8 and 9 inches.

Still glad it's not snow though!

Don't Want No More

Oh Goody! More rain on the way curtesy of Wilma. We also get high winds and perhaps even snow. We are becoming mushrooms in the gloom and dark and dank and humidity that we have had the last 3-4 weeks.
