About 5 years ago I lost my wedding ring in the snow. That spring he found it and I wore it until the spring of 2003, when I lost it while raking leaves. He got me a new ring for Christmas of 2003. I have taken it in every 6 months for cleaning and inspection.
In June, they took the ring and repaired a loose diamond - returning it about 10 days later. Friday while at work, I looked down and immediately noticed that the center diamond chip was missing. Friday afternoon I took it in to have them replace the diamond. I let the guy know right off the bat that I wasn't happy that the ring wasn't even two years old and I was already having problems (dropping that famous - my last ring I kept for 17 years and never had a diamond come out).
The guy asked me if it had been a special order or if we had had it sized. I told him it had been sized down from a 5 to a 4 1/2. He had a proposal for me:
Him: Why don't we special order a size 4 1/2?
Me: Hu?
Him: When a ring is sized down, the band is bent inward and it pulls all the settings a little bit outward. You will probably always have trouble with this ring because of that. However, if we special order a ring to size, everything will be made to the right scale and you shouldn't have any problem.
Me (warily): Will it cost me anything?
Him: Nope, we'll just exchange rings. But, if you want to keep this ring, we can repair it - I just don't think you will be as happy with it as you would a special made one.
Me: Um, sure, that sounds like a plan.
So, in a couple of weeks they will call and tell me to come pick up my new ring. I will walk in, hand them a used ring, with a missing diamond and they will hand me a brand new perfect ring.
Guarantees are good for something anyway!
Now that sounds like a bargain. A properly fitted ring should stay snuggly where it needs to be.
Bet you can't wait for it, can you?

Great that you found a reputable dealer! You'll be his customer, for life (not that you buy a bunch of jewelry, huh?)

I had that problem with a ring for years and then switched jewelers and never had the problem since.

Amazingly, the reputable jewler is a national chain - the one that is part of "Kiss".

And the "Kiss" people just got a payback for standing behind their product--in free advertising. That makes them winners. (You are a winner for having found a reputable outift!)
