Cop Car

I really did go to MIT--in about 1978 when the FAA and Soaring Society of America held a meeting there to discuss regulations that apply to towing gliders. The Little Airplane Company sent me to represent their interests. Although all of the small aircraft manufacturers whose aircraft might be used in such operations were invited, I was the only one who actually showed up.

Although I had been cautioned that I was being sent to listen, and telling the FAA and SSA folks as much, they asked my opinion--as a pilot (who had towed a glider, once, and flown a glider, once)and engineer--on how to address a couple of the issues in the regulations. Unbeknownst to me, my suggestion was pretty close to the opposite to what our chief engineer had wanted. (Well, he should have briefed me before sending me!) All turned out well. My approach was incorporated into the regulations and, last I checked, the wording was still there. The chief engineer was pursuaded by my argument.

The Chief Engineer couldn't complain if he didn't clue you in!

Nor did he. In fact, I only learned about our disagreement from a third party. Our chief engineer was a class act. He was called out of retirement to lead a project in designing a new aircraft a few years ago. That's a measure of how good he is!

Interesting, I had read in Newsweek that most bloggers were men. Glad it ain't so.

I heard that most "serious" bloggers are men.

All my life I've heard that most "serious" people are men. They need to get over the bias. It doesn't get much more "serious" than taking care of other people--overwhelmingly an endeavor of women. Ghaaa...sputter...clunk!

Yes, I also read that the most serious bloggers are men.. who kno why? :-)
