The rain we were supposed to have, wasn't (or didn't, or something). Sure, we got a few sprinkles, but they only lasted a couple of minutes. It also wasn't too bad temp-wise. It was probably in the 50's most of the day, then in the afternoon the sun broke out and it got into the 60's.
The tomatoes got transplanted into the garden. I surrounded them with a good bit of straw and leave to help them keep warm as well as weed control. the peppers got translocated to the cold frame so all that is under grow lights are flower seedlings.
I then planted some toad lilies. WS had seen the picture of the flowers while we were in Agway and thought they looked cool, so we ended up with some. Lastly, I filled 3 more planters with growing medium and broadcast more annual seeds into them; Baby's breath, poppies and an annual mix. I am assuming that while we are gone that it won't rain a drop (because I won't be wanting to hang my laundry out) and the seeds will shrivel and die. However, since the seeds were freebies, it doesn't really matter - and I could be pleasantly surprised.
Karen came over last night, for her directions in pet-sitting, and brought Texas Blueblonnet seeds. I started soaking them after she left and will plant them later today in the last planter that will go on the deck railing. Then I am done with yard work until we get back.
During my wanderings in the yard yesterday, I saw the femal cardinal (so I'm sure the male is around also) and an early hummingbird. It seems to be a good thing that I put out the hummingbird feeder early.
The only down-side about yesterday was the masses of black flies (nasty buggers). I pretty much confounded them by wearing a mesh, hooded shirt. They still got my hands and wrists a couple of times, but without the shirt I would have been eaten alive! Maybe we'll get a really hot spell while we are gone and the black flies (nasty buggers) will be gone when we get back.
Yeah, right - major wishful thinking!
