I heard from an old co-worker (as in I used to work with him, not that he is aged). I worked with Anthony at my last place of employment (which shut down) as well as the place I worked at prior to that (massive layoffs).
It was funny because I had noticed that one of our Sales Guys was showing someone around the place. I only saw the backside of the person he was escorting. They were about 30 feet away from me, which is a bit of a stretch for me to recognize faces, much less backsides.
But I thought the voice was familiar and wondered who would be asking our sales guy about sapphire (which is what we dealt with at the last 2 places of employment – and what Anthony deals with at his current employer), but of course I didn’t put 2 and 2 together (or at least I got the wrong answer).
Later, Anthony called me at work and said he had seen the back of my head, but didn’t know if it would be kosher to deviate from his guided tour to talk to me.
I wish I had realized who it was and gotten to talk to him in person instead of over the phone. I still feel somewhat like a stranger in a strange land where I am working now, and it would have been good to see a person that I know really well and could exchange a few “good old days” memories with.
Anthony promises that if he comes in again, he will throw a piece of candy at the back of my head. So, as long as he doesn’t miss too badly, I may get to see him sometime in the future.
