Floyd Like

An awesome evening was had by the Bogie household last night! We went to the Australian Pink Floyd Concert at the Verizon Wireless Arena, in downtown Manchester.

After we walked in and had our tickets scanned (those tickets sent thru email rock!), we were immediatly accosted by people giving away free CD's - Promo discs of the band. Never had that happen before. Naturally we took a CD then found our seats, which were about stage level.

One thing I have to make clear, is the Verizon Wireless Arena is not a big stadium, as far as those that live in big cities are concerned; it holds about 10,000 people. About 1/3 to 1/2 of this was cut off, and the stage was set somewhere near center court. They had a huge black sheet at the dividing point, reaching from side wall to side wall, so that the crowd didn't have to look at all the seats in the background (and it made a good background for the lights to be shown from). There was also a screen set up behind the playing area for the videos that they would be showing during the music.

Watching the crowd was interesting. There were teeny-boppers there, but they were far outnumbered by "gray hairs". Some of the people brought their pre-teen children with them. Several people had original Pink Floyd concert T-shirts on, and from their comments, the stage was set up pretty much as the original band had done (except I'm sure they played much larger venues).

Red Sox Nation

I work witha lot of folks that are Red Sox nuts. Very few people got enough sleep during the playoffs and the World Series. There is one gal in particular that is a super fan (she's talking about going into Boston today, along with 3-5 million people, to see the parade).

Curse Busters

The Red sox did it last night; they overcame the curse of the Bambino to win the World Series. Congratulations to the team and all the fans who have believed in them for so long!

The amazing thing is that I have figured out what busted the curse. Imagine, WS and I have never so much as watched an inning of baseball. The only reason we have seen any baseball was if there happened to be a game on while we were channel hopping (and we would hop on by).

Saturday, we had dinner and Harry and Heathers (a little payback for WS being there all weekend helping run the backhoe). Heather’s parents were there and after dinner her father turned on the TV to check on the game. We watched a couple of innings and then left for home. We watched a couple more innings once we were home.

Sunday night, WS turned on the game and we watched several innings. The same thing happened Tuesday night, and again last night. And, the Sox won. It must have been our actually watching part of each game that broke the curse.

Don’t tell the rest of the Red Sox Nation that we are responsible for lifting the curse – we will be reviled for not watching before now!

Playing Hookie

I'm playing hookie from work today because we didn't get back until 2:30 AM this morning. That is really late for someone who gets up at 4.

"Now why," you ask, "did you not get in until the wee hours of the morning?"

Late October

How in the hell did it get to be the last week in October already? I have so much to do yet, before the first snow flies! Friday afternoon I set the woodrack in place on the deck and filled it with wood. I also moved around the livingroom furniture so I could put the inside woodrack, ash bin and kindling bin out (and fill them - except for the ash bin of course).

Saturday I got the dogs' pen winterized - with a nice thick layer of straw in the house and the heated water bucket set up. Additionally, I did the "burn in run" on the stove (a short, warm - not hot - fire to drive the moisture out of the soapstone). I have also pulled most of the leeks and put them in the dehydrator. The onions are about ready to be pulled too.

However, I still have to put the vegetable and flower garden beds to bed (get it? Teeheehee, chuckle, chuckle, snort snort - put the garden beds to bed - haha!) Yes, I know I am very simple to find this funny, but I must find humor where I can at times - no matter how weak.

WS has been helping Harry clean up his driveway and where he had a bunch of trees logged off. Harry is a klutz when it comes to backhoes and such (so would I be should I ever try it, so I'm not knocking Harry). So, the Wonderful Spouse was drafted to help him. All I have to say, is after all the help WS has given Harry the last month or so, he better come up and paint the trimwork to the windows soon!

We'll have the first real fire in the woodstove today; it's been in the low/mid 40's and cloudy the last several days. It's been sunnier and warmer further up north, or so the local TV station says. I'm not sure whether I'll be working in the garden beds or cleaning the bird room, but either way, I'll be busy while WS is playing with the machinery!

Birds and Dogs (Not Bird Dogs)

Coming back from my long-term pet-sitting duties last night, I was traveling down a twisty road. Yes, I know they are twisty around here, but I'm just trying to set the scene. It is a narrow, tree lined road, with just a few gaps in the tree limbs where one can glimpse the sky every now and then. Through one of those gaps, I saw a large bird flying just over the tree tops and criss-crossing the road. At first I thought it must be a raven, but the shape seemed odd. However, it was dusk and telling what was bird and what was tree limbs was difficult.

The bird kept criss-crossing the road (or probably more accurately, the road criss-crossed the bird's path. After a few more moments, I realized it was some sort of heron. I was rapidly coming to the point where the road I was traveling met 149, and I knew a moment of dissappointment. I was dissappointed because I knew the heron would be heading toward the swamp to the south - and I would be heading north on 149 (still had more pets to take care of). When I came around the last corner, just before the road met 149, I was amazed to see the heron landing in someone's dirt driveway. I stopped and took a good look and found that I was looking at a Little Blue Heron. I have seen several Great Blue Herons, but never a Little Blue, or at least not that I could get a good enough look to make a possitive identification. Just too cool!

Editing

I've done some long overdue editing of my blogroll. There were links to people that no longer blogged and there were some links I wanted to add - so I finally got around to it.

I've added Accidental Verbosity, the place of Deb and Jay (who WS and I met at the Weekend Pundit's blogfest). I have been visiting Accidental Verbosity for some time, following the progress of Deb's pregnancy and their resulting daughter. Unfortunately, Jay doesn't know that I visit because his comment section won't take my comments. I always get a "Your comment could not be posted at this time" message. Someone let me know what time exactly that I can post a comment!

I've also added Alphecca, who we also met at the blogfest. He has just celebrated becoming an old man and his blogging anniversary - all in the same week.

I know there are others I wanted to add, but off course I can't remember who, so they will have to wait until the next time I decide to do some maintenance to this site.

UPDATE: Just and FYI: me editing of links has changed the placement of all the links. This is a random occurance whenever it is updated (since I have it set on "random"), so your placement means absolutely nothing - don't get upset if your link has suddenly made it towards the bottom when it was previously towards the top!

Annoyances

Cody, Dude Dufus, it’s a little early in the season to be driving around with a plow hitched to the front of your truck (it may be frosty at night, but we’re still a little way from actual snow). Additionally, driving the truck in the early morning hours, with the plow in such a position that it blocks your headlights, is not a great idea. If you absolutely must drive around with the plow on, in the dark, where there are no street lights, the smart thing to do Cody, is to get hook-on lights that rise above the plow so you can see the road.

Baseball Fever

Red Sox fever is definitely at an all time high at work. It seems that everyone is a huge baseball fan (even prior to the Sox getting into the playoffs). A lot of them go to the home games whenever possible, and take off early to watch the away games on TV. We’ve had some mighty sleepy people at work after the games that went 12 and 14 innings.

Either everyone will be rejuvenated, or they will be walking zombies after game 7. If the Sox win that game, people will have too much energy to work off before they come in to work the next day. If the Sox lose game 7 – people will be so depressed that they will be walking zombies.

Me, I don’t watch baseball; not since Grandma used to take me to Royals games – back when Bucky Dent was the short stop (I think that was his position anyway) and Dick Drago was a pitcher (I can’t believe I just drudged up those names after thirty some years).
