Posting for the Sake of Posting

What a great start to the weekend; waking up a couple of hours before I need to with a strong headache while it is pouring rain outside.

To make it even better, the Wonderful Spouse is sick and miserable - so much so that they sent him home from work yesterday (he's too stubborn to leave on his own). So the rest of the day should be rather joyous - ha!

I was planning on putting a 4th coat of polyurathane on the base of the window in the living room today, but with WS sick, that won't be happening. That's alright, I have a list about a mile long that needs to get done, I'll just have to swap the order in which I planned to do things (not that the list was going to get completely done anyway).

It's supposed to be dry tomorrow, so I plan on planting the bulbs that came in the mail on Thursday then. I'll also havee to pick all the tomatoes that have even thought about getting some pink on them, as the temps are supposed to dip down in the 30's Sunday night. The pepper plants won't be happy about the low temp, but their offerings should be okay to leave out for a while more.

For such a busy week (and this one was mild compared to what I have for the next couple of weeks), I sure don't have anything interesting to write about so I will leave you to your own devices for a while.

Late Summer Times

The hummingbirds have left the area. Seems they knew exactly when Labor Day weekend was. I washed and filled the feeders before we left for Niagara, and when we got back they hadn't been touched at all. They haven't been touched since either. With great sadness, I took down the larger of the feeders until next spring. I'm leaving the smaller one in case some migrating hummers find our yard a good place for a rest stop.

The frames to the new bay windows have been stained on the inside. The Wonderful Spouse got a coat on one of the Wednesday night. Over the weekend I put 2 coats on that one (plus another on the ledge part) and 3 coats on the other window. I still need to get a 4th coat on that ledge, but they are both well protected for now.

WS spent all weekend at work, putting together the bed and sides for Harry's dump body. Things haven't gone as smoothly as he would like, but they haven't gone badly either. He's about 80 percent done and just needs to figure out how to make the type of gate on that Harry wants. I'm hoping that this will get Harry to painting the outside of the windows!

Pet-Sitting Foilies

Before, I was busy pet-sitting. Now it's just plain hectic. I have sent an email to all my customers telling them that I am full up until Oct. 4 and only have weekend openings from Oct. 4 until Oct. 24.

One of my customers really screwed with my schedule. I have known for a couple of months that I would be taking care of a customer's cat and bird for 6 weeks, starting yesterday. Usually, I tend to them twice a day, but she asked if I would bring the bird home and just drop by once per day to take care of the cat. This was a good solution, and I readily agreed. So, I have been scheduling additional pet-sitting duties on the assumption that I would only have to go over to this customer's house once a day, basically when it was convenient.

A couple of days ago, this customer decided she didn't want me to bring the bird home and wants me to go over twice per day. This really buggers up my schedule (did I really type "buggers"? I've been reading Billy too long!) as now I have two weeks (and a couple of oddball days) where I have scheduled two other customers that need twice per day visits. I thought I would be stretching it to do that much when I thought I was going to take care of the cat once per day!

I'll be setting my alarm for extra-extra early and getting home really, really late at times in the next month and-a-half. Damn, foiled again (and you thought that title was a typo didn't you?).

Jumping Around

Don’t most people go to Niagara to see the falls and the rest of the sites? What is up with all the people at work asking me if such-and-such casino has opened, what casino did we gamble at etc. etc.? If I want to go gambling, I could go where most people around here go; Foxwoods in Connecticut – especially considering the difference in drive times.

The purpose of the trip was to see stuff not to stay inside a building with a thousand or so strangers, spending money for no good reason. I personally would only consider gambling as a last resort if I was extremely bored (and then I would rather find a book store).

While we were in Niagara, we saw license plates from all over. I would say the longest haul for any vehicle was one with Alaska plates (about 4,100 miles if they were from Fairbanks). I don’t think there is any way to beat that driving distance. There was also a bike with an attached trailer that had come from Washington State (that’s a long haul to ride!).

Have you noticed that it is harder and harder to get a decent sized bottle of salad dressing that is not either low fat or low carb? All I want is some regular Ranch dressing, and it seems I can only find it in a 6 ounce bottle. But I can get a huge bottle of the low fat Ranch if I want – I don’t. This is just plain wrong! Now a 6 ounce bottle of the full-flavor, full-fat, full-sugar variety might be large enough if I just had salad every once in a while, but I have one every day for lunch (and it aint no little wimpy side salad either). One of these days I’m going to storm the walls of the manufacturers and demand that they package the high-octane dressings in the larger bottles.

I am swamped with pet-sitting customers for the rest of this month and into parts of October. There are a lot of days I have taken more than I should – and will seriously be kicking myself in the ass for doing so. Somebody is going to be plain out of luck if they want any of what time in what is left of this month. Why couldn’t I have been this busy when I wasn’t working?

The Scoop

We had a bit of a rocky start for the trip to Niagara, but we all had a wonderful time. There were 4 of us going, Jim, Karen myself and WS (H&H had bowed out of the trip last month). Karen and Jim were meeting us at our house Saturday morning. Karen called Friday night in a panic saying that her car had died, it had been towed and she didn’t know what was wrong with it. The real problem was that she had no transportation to our house – an hour away from here. So, we headed off to her place and dropped WS’s truck off for her to use

We're Back!

We got back safe and sound - will post about the trip later this week. Just wantd everyone to know that we are still alive.

Tripping

Estrogen, Pregnancy and Women

I got this in an email, saying to send it on to 5 other women - well, consider it passed on!

Since I won’t be around next weekend, so won’t be able to do any posting, I suppose that I should be writing more during the week. Yea, that's gonna happen.

Let’s see, WS finished the foundation for the future (very future) addition to the house. We have discussed replacing the oil tank while it is easily accessible. Although the present tank is still good, if we get a new one now, we won’t have to worry about it for another 20+ years. The tank we presently have certainly won’t last half that long.

I moved and stacked about half the wood that WS had cut up and split earlier in the year. My arms look like I was severely beaten because they are so scratched and bruised from carrying the wood. It probably would have been smart of me to wear long sleeves except it was so hot and humid that I couldn’t bear the thought of it. I sweat so much that it looked as if I was in a wet T-shirt contest after I had been working only a couple of minutes – and it only got worse. I worked a slow and steady pace, taking a break every 30 minutes to drink a couple of cups of water. Only one more go-around of stacking left – I think I’ll leave it for a cooler day!

Harry never got over to paint, so the outside trim of the windows is still bare wood. Of course we haven’t gotten around to polyurethaning the insides, so we can’t complain too much.

On Monday, it had been a whole week since we had seen any rain at the house. So Monday evening I decided I better water the vegetable garden. Naturally it rained later that night (not enough though, so I was still glad that I had watered).

I'm still looking for a bit of rain to water the new flower bed - otherwise I will have to water it before we leave for the weekend.

Ah, the weekend, can't wait to get away!
