I was going to take care of a client's cat this morning and saw something really weird at the side of the road. Since it was early morning and cloudy I had a hard time telling what it was. At first I thought that someone had lost a couple of black trashbags out of their vehicle. Then I thought maybe it was a pine tree that had been stripped of all its needles except a couple of big bunches at the very end of a limb.
When I was almost beside it I finally figured out it was a tom turkey fully fanned out, proudly showing off its feathers to the passing cars.
Maybe spring really is here!
You don't often get to see them fan out. We had 3 in the back about one week ago. In previous years we've had 7 or 8. Don't know whether the flock has dwindled or whether I just missed seeing some of them. (But they didn't fan out.)

Hopefully you just missed seeing some of them. I love it when we get to see the babies with a flock.
