As of the end of my shift on December 19, I will no longer be employed. Although technically the business is not closing, the machines have been sold to another company and our West Coast salesman will be taking anything we have in stock and storing it in his garage. He will be able to sell this stock on a comission basis. When the stock is gone, he will have to buy more fiber from the company that bought the machines.
Although this isn't a huge surprise, it would have been nice if they had waited until the first of the year, but instead it is a
to the production and support staff.
P.S. Posting may be light (or may not, who knows) for the next week as I will probably spend my free time job searching at Monster, newspapers and company websites.
P.P.S. I'm sure I'll be the life of the party as WS's company Christmas party tomorrow night!
That really stinks. Really stinks. First Acidman, then Kevin at Wizbang, then Dax Montana, and now you.
WTF????
Christmas firing....heartless pricks.
Best of luck with your job search.

Are the machines going to stay in town or are they being moved? Just curious. If they stay, the new owners may still need someone to run them. Just a thought.
Expect a phone call this weekend.
Good luck on the job search.

What crappy news. My heart goes out to you.
And...
They still have the chutzpah (sp?) to have a holiday party? Yeah, THAT's a GREAT idea. (/sarcasm)

Hello darlin, billy sent me.
Well you know you're not alone there's all the people listed above and also my stepfatherinlaw (does that make sense?) At least you can let your hair down at the firm's party.
Hell, have a ball tell em all what you think. It's not like they can sack you is it?
I'll repeat what others have said, it's disgustingly cynical to do it now, but then, there's never a good time to be made redundant is there? Good luck with the search. I hope you find something better, with more cash.

That's not good to hear. I've been there enough times, however, to know that what at first blush seems a disaster can turn out to be the involuntary nudge toward a new direction I should have been headed in the first place.
I don't think I've ever seen the "F" word and "Christmas" in the same breath before. They don't go well together, although I understand your disgust with the timing of things.

There seems to have been a misunderstanding, the Christmas party was put on by the company my husband works at, not my company (they have never had a party of any type).
The company that bought the machines is the same company that I was laid off from after 13 1/2 years (previous to working at my present company). They also recently just laid off some people, so I don't think they'll be looking for anyone. I think the only reason they bought the machines was to keep the technology out of competitor's hands.
