Around Town

The flu season has started early in New Hampshire. We haven't been hit as hard as Texas or Colorado yet, but only time will tell if it becomes a major problem. And in case anyone wants to know, no, we haven't had flu shots. I have known too many people that have been sick, and out of work, for weeks after getting a flu shot. One person was affected so badly that he was out of work for a month and in the hospital for part of that time. That does not mean other people should avoid getting a flu shot (especially those that are elderly or have health problems), but we have decided that is the way to go.

Weekend Update

The Wonderful Spouse spent most of Saturday helping Harry out with renovating his barn, so I had a chance to do some housecleaning where the house would actually stay clean for a while.

Sunday we went to get a new storm door for the front door, since the old one got slammed around in the massive wind we experienced at the end of last week (Mt. Washington experienced winds of up to 140 MPH - we didn't have winds that high, but we had gusts up to 60 MPH). We found the one we wanted, but of course they didn't have any in the color we wanted (white). BUT, their store in Manchester had 8 of them in stock, so we actually did get one. It hasn't been put in yet, but at least we have it.

The Wonderful Spouse spent the rest of Sunday fixing the dog pen. He decided that a specialty latch wasn't needed, the post just needed to be fixed. The pen has been up for 15-16 years, and the posts had become like drucken sailors; they leaned every which way. This caused the gate to twist in order to close it. WS ended up diging up 4 posts (2 for the gate, one corner and one middle pole) on that side of the fence and straightening them out. He had a great contraption set up with a tow chain, several tow straps and a large fir tree to pull the corner post into square. Then he got the rest of the poles set and re-aligned the gate (it definitely looks better anyway). Hopefully this will work, guess I'll find out when I get home this afternoon!

We watched Terminator 3 last night (hey, we actually saw a movie that has just come out recently!). Since we are special effects junkies, we enjoyed it immensly. Although most of what happened was no big surprise, there was plenty of humor injected to keep us interested. I will say that we were surprised by the ending though - but we are probably just a little slow on the uptake, so others may not be surprised at all.

And that is pretty much what was happening at the Bogie household this weekend

Call Up

The Hillboro based 774th Transportation Company has been called up with an expected departure for Iraq in early December. Stay safe guys and gals!

Too Smart

We've had our trials and tribulations with smart dogs, namely Prince. Usually Missy is rather feather-brained, although she does have her moments. Now, I'm not sure who is being the smart-alek, but it really bug the heck out of me.

Oh, and by the way, Billy has a short post about their vacation in Florida. And I must say that they have good taste if they enjoyed the Rockin' Roller Coaster and the Tower of Terror!

The Bogie family household has always been a magnet for other people's animals. Usually we attract cats, since our dogs tend to take a dim view of other dogs trying to horn in on their territory.

Random Stuff

Greg, at A Dog's Life, obviously has his elderly Borzoi firmly under control.

I had an eye appointment today. The doc thinks he can get my left eye back to seeing reasonably well (it's now at slighly worse than 20/60), without changing to a specialty contact. That's a big relief if true; specialties are expensive. Trial contacts should be in next week, so we'll see.

I don't know why the Weather Channel insists that it will only rain, when it has been clearly been snowing for 1 1/2 hours (earlier today - when the temp was supposed to be in the 40's, r-r-i-i-g-g-t-t-!).

Just when we thought we had the projects done for this year, the storm door at the main entrance broke off one of the hinges. Guess we aren't done after all. Hmm, wonder if we can get the same 3 drunk guys together to make the installation of the new door entertaining (last time it took 3 or so hours).

Cop Car wants to hear about the motorcycle riding chicken. I'll have to work on that story.

Bosses sometimes come up with stupid ideas impossible demands interesting challenges. Ever notice how these come along when the boss won't be seeing you for a while and they just email the "interesting challenges" to you?
