I haven't done a post on people finding this blog via search reasults (i.e. Google-type searches) for quite some time (the bad old Blogger days). The main reason has been that since moving to TypePad, it seems it took search engines a while to catch back up to where my blog was.

Music

The great thing about being on 3rd shift, in a small company, is that I can listen to any music I like - at whatever volume I like.

Weekend Doings

Another facinating weekend at the Bogie homestead. WS and the neighbor went in together on a log splitter so they split up the trees that had been cut down, in May, before putting up the fence and the big oak tree that had blown down a couple of weeks ago.

The Year Was 2003

That was the year that the New Hampshire town of Keene easily established a new world record. Keene's Pumpkin Festival garnered over 28,000 (Yes, you read that right - 28 thousand) pumpkins to surpass its old record of nearly 24,000 pumpkins. Portland, Maine had vowed to compete with Keene this year, but could only muster up just over 15,000 pumpkins. I don't know how they crammed 70,000 people in the town of Keene, but my hat is off to those who helped break the record.

Stay Safe

Da Goddess' family is pretty close to one of the wildfires in California.

Both she and Greg have taken pictures that are both beautiful and eerie at the same time (make sure to click on the link at the bottom of the post, which will take you to more pictures - and by the way, there are 2 pages of pictures there).

I am thinking good thoughts and hoping that everyone stays out of harm's way!

UPDATE:
Citizen Smash (formerly Lt. Smash) is creating a running update from his area of California. In going thru the info I found that Miramar stables came out of it okay (Da Goddess was worried about a friend's horses) and Monday Night Football will be played in Phoenix (originally scheduled for CA). And I thought ordinary tornadoes were bad enough, I can't imagine what sort of damage a twister of flames does!

Congrats

Julie Crone became the first woman jockey to win a Breeder's Cup race aboard Halfbridled in the Juvenile Fillies race yesterday. Although Halfbridled was the favorite of the race, she started from the tough outside position (14th post) to beat her competition.

Trainer Richard Mandella won 4 Breeders Cup races; Juvenile Filly, Juvenile Male, Turf and Classic. Only one of the 4 horses was expected to win her race (Halfbridled). In fact Pleasantly Perfect (Classic) was not even supposed to have a chance with the likes of Congeree, Medaglia d'Oro and Funny Cide as competitors. Anyone who bet on him got a great payday at $30.40 for a Win.

Congrats to Julie and Richard, as well as all the other competitors in the races!
