Our temps, so far this spring, have mainly been in the 50's and 60's. Every once in a while, we would get an oddball day that it was in the high 70's - but that was only on the days the sun was shining and we haven't seen the sun much this season.
Yesterday, summer arrived with a vengeance. It was 85 degrees yesterday and the temps for the rest of the week are projected to be in the 90's (according to last night's news on the local TV station). Needless to say we are already broiling because we are used to the cooler temps.
The best part for me is that we don't have air conditioning where I work, and with the machine running, temps run about 100 inside. We have one over-head door that can be opened to let in fresh air, but it faces the sun from sunrise until about 4 PM, so we don't want to open it to let the sun heat up everything even more inside (trust me, we tried it last year - not what we want to do).
At the beginning of last summer, there was a tall tree near the door which offered shade from about 11 AM and thru the rest of the day. This was great, as we could open the overhead door and let in a breeze once the door was shaded. However, for some unknown reason, the landlord had the tree cut down in the middle of the summer, so now we just broil.
There is no dress code in the production area during the summer; sandles, tank tops and shorts are all considered appropriate dress because of the conditions. Our computers start suffering in the heat and we end up rebooting them on a regular basis (thank goodness we have old computers - newer, faster computers would probably be perpetually locked up since they produce so much more heat themselves anyway).
The only people that enjoy this predicament are the Ice Pop makers since we go thru a large box of that icey goodness about once a week.
