Taking a Sick Day

There weren't enough hours this weekend to get everything done, I couldn't sleep (got up and read until 11 last night and still couldn't handle the Wonderful Spouse's snoring), I got up an hour late (alarm clock issues) and I'm sure that I can come up with a couple of othere excuses.

We aren't starting a run until Wednesday because of staffing issues on 3rd shift. I'll also be putting in plenty of time once I start the run since it does not involve our regular sapphire. We are doing an experiment with an exotic blend and I am the only person that really knows how to "grow" - the off-shifters are just there in case of a power failure emergencies and to process the finished fibers. So, since we are trying to keep the OT to a minimum, and I have stuff to do, I have made the executive decision that work can live without me today (it doesn't hurt that it will be sunny and in the 70's today . . .)

Point Of Confusion For FN

FN was listening in on a conversation about a previous posting and, though she knew she was FN, she didn't know what it stood for. Typical attitude time, she blurted out, "Does that stand for "freak of nature?". It HURTS to resist a line like that. She was happy with the answer and calmed down. Gotta love it.

A Replacement Rodent Has Been Found

Sis and F.N. went out tonight and picked out a replacement rodent for the recently departed "Rat Boy". The newest, yet unnamed, addition is a short haired regular (?) hamster. She is rather more energetic than the Rat Boy was even when he was a lot younger. I'm sure a name will pop up and be fitting, it just may take a day or two. Right now she is busy getting used to her new home and the parakeets are going nuts checking out the new roommate they have. This should be entertainment for a while till everyone settles in.

Saturdays MidWest Winefest

Had a full day on Saturday. Once again worked the Winefest in Doo-Dah, (Wichita,Ks. for all you foreigners). This was the 8th annual event. Though the event isn't new, the main person running it is different. The old coordinator retired and passed the torch. Of course we all anticipated a host of issues to be addressed, so we were pretty much prepared. I will have to say, not much went wrong. We didn't worry needlessly, enough confusion was available to put most of our nervous energy to good use. We once again survived and all was good. Hopefully, in a couple days I will have some numbers to give on how the event benifitted the charity it sponsors.

Wichi Dude Says "Sis-Spam"?

Spam? Us? No way! Yes way. Had an e-mail from Sis Friday night letting me know someone got her screen name and password and sent out a bunch of spam through her account. This required the ritual changing of passwords and checking all the accounts to keep things on the clean side. Like they used to say on "Hill Street Blues", "Let's be careful out there."

Just Say Awe

Taking a break from cleaning the house while the Wonderful Spouse is York-raking the driveway. I picked up some pictures the other day and decided to post them, but in the interest of keeping the blogs loading time to a minimum, you will have to click on the individual links to access them:

Fences

We went out and looked at fences yesterday and will have someone contacting us soon to give us an estimate. I thought we would probably go with Vinyl Fencing, but may end up with Aluminum Fencing instead. I like the idea of aluminum fencing as it has a lifetime guarentee against rust, chipping, peeling and cracking. The vinyl fencing can experience non-uniform fading and color changes, due to unequal exposure to the sun. I also like the idea of having smaller but stronger pickets, which increases visibility through to the other side of the fence.

We have an idea what part of the front yard we would like fenced in, but will have to see what the cost is and pare it down from there if it exceeds what we are able to afford.

Energy Sources

The Weekend Pundit has a great essay on the different forms of energy that are now available and will be available in the future. Although we had to wait a couple of days to see this piece, it was worth it!

A Brief Comment

Even though you don't know the people who's blogs I send you to (and they, in a lot of cases have never met the people who's blogs they send you to), it is really okay to leave a comment. Heck, I had never heard of Jim, Greeblie (Dave), Weekend Pundit (DCE), DaGoddess or Venomous Kate until I stumbled upon a blog by accident and started following links to other blogs (that is how I got the idea to start this endevour). I still don't know these people, and will probably never meet them (well, maybe DCE since we both live in NH, but we wouldn't know it if we pass each other on the street), but is great to have a type of friendship with these people.

This is not to say that you have to leave a comment, but I just wanted to let everyone know that it is acceptable, and even encouraged since that lets people get an idea who their 100's (or 1,000's) of hits are.
