This or That Tuesday . . . Er, Wednesday

Which is more comforting to you: 1. Lying down on the couch, or stretching out on a recliner? Couch, definity the couch. 2. Going barefoot or wearing soft slippers? Barefoot. 3. Eating ice cream, or pizza? Ice cream, after eating pizza. 4. Watching on TV...a classic movie or a reality show? Football, CSI, NYPD Blue. Sorry, got carried away. Since none of those fit in either catagory, I'd just turn the tube off and grab a book. 5. Wearing: blue jeans or sweat pants? Blue Jeans 6. A long, soothing bubble bath or a quick, invigorating shower? Love showers. 7. Furniture: leather, or something more on the fuzzy side? Velour-type, so I guess fuzzy. 8. Soft, classical music, or upbeat rock & roll? Rock and Roll Baby! 9. Darkness or light? Light, unless I'm trying to look at the stars; then darkness with a little startlight. 10. Thought-provoking question of the week: You get married, or otherwise begin cohabitating with a significant other. S/he moves into your place, but brings with them the UGLIEST chair you have ever seen! You really don't want this thing in your home, but SO says it is the most comfy chair s/he has ever sat in, and no way will they part with it. Do you: grin and bear it, or scheme to get rid of the montrosity somehow? We've had butt-ugly furniture before, because that's what was free we could afford - not a problem, grin and bear it!

Carnival of the Vanities

The Carnival of the Vanities has made its latest stop at Clubbeaux. Since it has been a while since I have posted anything about the Carnival, here is a short description. It is for bloggers to spotlight some of their best writing, and it seems that a lot of people have entries this week. Several of my Favorites have entries, and it is always fun to discover other bloggers and see what they have to offer.

One Tough School

Thanks to Venomous Kate, we can now find a story about a woman that was in law school and pregnant. Actually, she was a little more than pregnant, she was giving birth, which apparently was not sufficient excuse to miss an oral exam. The solution? Multi-task.

Ravines Cam

The Mount Washington Observatory tested the repaired ravinea cam on Monday (it was hit by lightning a while ago, which for some strange reason put it out of commission). This camera is on the sumit of Wildcat mountain and takes shots of Tuckerman and Huntington Ravines. Anyway, here is the test shot.

Another Estimate

Thursday, we will be getting another estimate for fencing the yard. This company is owned by the friend of a friend and he's made a good start as I was impressed by how fast he got back to me after I left a message yesterday morning. I'm still waiting to hear from the company we contacted Saturday and another that I contacted on Monday.

Fiber Fest

The Weekend Pundit mentioned the Fiber Fest yesterday. After reading the post, I wondered if anyone from my company had attended (if I hadn't played hookie, I would have known). AD, the Marketing and Sales Manager attended yesterday afternoon on the off chance that there would be something that we could use or someone that we could be usefull to.

The reason it would have been an off chance, is that we produce optical fiber, which is not the same as producing fiber optics. Our markets are for short fibers, usually 2 meters or less, which are used for laser applications as well at heat-sensing applications. We also produce some structural fiber, but that is not our main business. Sapphire is much too expensive to be competitive in the fiber optics business. However, it has properties, such as heat tolerance, that make it more suited for our target markets.

Unfortunatly, AD did not find anything usefull at the show, but at least got to get out of the office and enjoy some of the nice weather

Fence Estimate

I got someone to come over last night and give us an estimate for the fencing. He runs a family business (instead of the huge business we had visited this weekend), so I figured his prices would be cheaper. They definitely were; his price including installation is less than the price of the sections from the 1st business we contacted (still haven't heard from them to give us an estimate). He also gave us a good idea on how to change the location of the fence to make it more aesthetically pleasing. He warranties the workmanship for 2 years and he uses a different company to supply the aluminum fence sections. Their warranty is the same as the other fencing company. If this is the company we use, we will get the S4 Saybrook style (top picture on the page).

I am waiting for another family business to call and set up an estimate, as well as the original business we contacted. A friend of ours showed up last night with the business card for another business run by a friend of his, so I will call them today. After I get all the estimates, it will be time to make the decision as to what we will actually fence in and who we will go with. We do want to hurry and make our decision within the next couple of weeks as somewhere around Memorial Day, people start thinking of summer projects and the lead time will be longer than the 3 weeks it is currently at.

Sunday, the Day of Rest

Right! After finishing the housework, I repotted the tray of seedlings containing flowers, parsnips, turnips, squash and melons. One tray doesn't sound like much, but this tray had 72 plugs in it, so there was plenty of work involved. I even had to run to the local Agway and get another 3.8 cubic foot bale of Pro-Mix potting medium to finish the job.

We also measured the part of the yard which we would like to have fenced in. We figured about 10 Grand just for fencing materials; not including installation. We have already pared down the area and gotten it down to about 8 Grand. Where did Cop Car say those hidden assets were?

Of course these prices are going off the one place that we were able to visit on Saturday. That is one of the things that I will be doing today, going to other places for ball-park figures on fence section prices, and to schedule at least one other company to give us an estimate on installation.
