MArooned: And The Results Are In...

...well, by this time you've seen who the winner is in the 2012 Kilted to Kick Cancer Fundraising challenge. Obviously I'm happy to have won, but I want to give a shout-out to Michael and Stingray for a seriously butt-kicking competition. Both of these fine gentlemen really went the distance to raise money as well, and they busted their butts to raise money for cancer research. Great job, guys!!!

First off, let me extend a hearty THANK YOU to everyone that donated. I am positively gobsmacked by the generosity shown by my readers, lurkers, commenters, and passers-by. By my reckoning, over $6,500 was donated to The Prostate Cancer Foundation and LiveStrong through MArooned - that's nothing short of amazing. I'll say it again, gunnies are the greatest people. Thank you all.

Secondly, I want to extend another hearty THANK YOU to the six people that donated their time and energy into making prizes available for me to give away. Michael W., Nancy R., Dennis, Wally, Larry, and Mark, I can't thank you enough for the awesome prizes you made available. I very nearly tripled my total donation from last year, and I owe it all to the six of you, no question about it.

I actually backed a winner! Congrats to Jay for his stellar work on raising funds for fighting prostate cancer.

Type Pad Dashboard Quirkiness

So this is the weirdest thing. For the last 2 months, in TypePad dashboard, my desktop does not show me many of the functions such as inserting links, inserting pictures, making text into a citatation (indented both sides and italicized). On my laptop I see all those options, but on my desktop, from where I do most of my posting, I am missing a bunch of the functions. I tried turning on the "Lite" editor, then turning it back off, but that wasn't any help.

Maybe it's a funtion of still using IE 6x, I don't know, but it sure bugs me and slows me down when I have to drag all the HTML stuff out of my brain!

Several blogs that I frequent have changed their host and/or comment host. After leaving a comment at each of those blogs, I have not been able to find a way back to the main blog page. I don't know what is up with that, but if the choice is reading the list of posts for the week, or commenting and having to close the tab then reclick the link on my sidebar - I vote for the easy way every time.

Just sayin'.

Your Browsing is being Watched

Google is keeping tabs on your browsing habits (click link to see yours). Is that a big revelation - no (or, I should hope not anyway). Ruth found that Google somehow missed that she has a gun habit, it didn't miss my "hunting and shooting" predilection though.

However, it somehow missed my motorcycle mania (geeze, I only go to several forums/blogs/websites on/for bikes). It also somehow missed my affection for cats too, even though it figured out I liked dogs.

And, Google committed the biggest sin, it tacked on an estimated 6+ years onto a woman's age. On the other hand, seeing that it called Ruth the same age group, maybe it thinks everyone is between 55 and 64.

It occurred to me that I use 2 different computers in the house (desk top and laptop). The previous results are for the desk top, the following are for the laptop.

Google Capture

Notice that they get the motorcycle thing and get my age group correct. They have also noticed the yard work thing BUT they think I am a male.

Hu, just highlights the differences on what use I put each computer to and the apparent fact that I act female when on the desktop and act male when on the laptop.

Song of the Times

So I know the sopa/PIPA ado is done (for now, until Congress reworks it and hopes no one is paying attention except the PACS), but I just came across this on New Jovian Thunderbolt, and had to share.

For the Occupy Whatever and Forgiveness Crowd

Found a great post by Robb at Sharp as a Marble. Posting the whole thing here so you don't have to click around (although, I encourage you to visit SAAM as I find interesting reads there on a regular basis)

So, I’ve heard that homeless people and ‘professional moochers’ have invaded and started eating all your organic tofu and goat cheese salads. That’s gotta be rough, but I have a solution for you that will help hammer home the point you people have been trying to make.

Since you have all the food necessary to feed the people, we can consider it a place where you store goods… I dunno, call it a ‘food bank’ or something. We know that because you have only a limited amount of food, you need to ensure that the food is distributed correctly. One way you could do this is issue vouchers for food with the condition that those who take food promise to bring more in later to replenish the stocks. Call this “a food loan”. Even the homeless people would have to agree to pay back their fair share of food. By doing so, your bank can ensure it always has enough food to feed everyone!

Finally, when you realize that there’s not enough food to go around, you can tell all the people holding ‘food credit’ that they need to pay up and when they complain that their degree in Domicile Avoidance hasn’t permitted them to obtain sustenance (you’re gonna love this part) you can forgive everyone’s food loans!!!!! Just like that!

You see, you have large stores of food, which made you food-wealthy. Because you are wealthy, you can give away your food with no expectation of ever getting any back at all. Just because those people promised to return food doesn’t mean they actually have to. So you can show the world exactly how beneficial wiping out everyone’s loans is by being a shining example of a working system!
