Trick or Treat

So there is this little hurricane named Sandy, heading our way from the south. Then there is a cold front that is heading our way from the west. And, Canadian arctic air is pushing its way down from the north. They should collide sometime Sunday thru Tuesday and give us a real treat of a storm the media is now dubbing Frankenstorm. Basically the collision of the storms will turn into one giant of a Nor'Easter. Oh, add into that the fact that it is a full moon, meaning naturally high tides, and the coast is in for some trouble.

If things work out wrong, then we could be headed for bettering the 2 feet of snowfall from the Nor'Easter that we got last Halloween Eve. The good news is that most of our trees have lost their leaves, although the oaks are still holding onto theirs. Furthere down south, they aren't that lucky so heavy snowfall will creat havoc, much as last year's storm did for us (our treees were full of leaves then).

Here's to hoping that Sandy doesn't want to play and heads out to sea!

Bogie--Good luck on your weather. Your dad is in Topeka teaching/mentoring another instructor. He received a call from DC, asking if he could leave for the coast, today. Well...no...he will finish teaching the class at 4:00pm or later, drive home, figure out how to vote, then let them know that he is available if still needed. (We are sending a couple of people out, today.) I can't do anything because of the sciatica. This has not been a good year for my own volunteer endeavors. They call, but I can't go.
You are well-practiced at shoveling snow (and you and WS are pretty self-sufficient); so, you will do well. Please keep us posted.

Looks like we may only get several days of wind and rain, so nothing we haven't seen for most of October!

Good luck to HH if he goes out - hopefully all the preperation will turn out to be a training exercise!

Bogie--Occasionally, we do go through the hoops for what turns out to be training; but, unfortunately, that seems unlikely for Sandy. We did get at least 9 people sent to NY, yesterday. We stopped when the risk of having people "trapped" mid-trip became too great (they had to be scheduled to land by 11:00pm NY time.)
HH got home a couple of hours earlier than he had thought, ran both yesterday and this morning to get his exercise in, and will go down to the Woodlawn Methodist Church to vote, today. Since it may be two or three more days before airline service is re-established to your part of the world, the open slot may already have been filled (with someone within driving distance) by then. They had wanted him in Pittsburgh PA. We shall see.
