Labels Are Important

Geeze, this scare about Tylenol is just amazing. When I was young and took loads of Tylenol for migraines, I knew that it was bad for the liver, but I couldn't take asperin. I haven't taken Tylenol since mid-late 20's as I don't tolerate it very well any more (and, I figured out what caused my migraines, so don't have those any more).

Now, now, the rest of the populace and FDA is figuring this out? If it isn't one crisis it is another - get on the ball people, read the freakin warnings on the label and don't act like "if some are good, more must be better."

Really, as a young teenager, I knew this stuff, and I'm not really all that smart - If I could figure it out (without the Internet even), then the majority of the rest of the populace should be able to read and understand the label!

Tylenol is not something that I ever used more than a couple of times. I rarely had "normal" headaches and Tylenol wouldn't touch the migraines that I've had. (Now, I so rarely have a migraine and it's so mild that I don't even worry about them. That is probably a bad thing, as Elder Brother tells me - it means that my blood vessels are no longer pliable enough to expand enough to give me a bad migraine.)

I'm with you, "read the freakin warning labels". Also, listen to the Doc and Pharmacist. Most, if not ALL, will give you warnings and instructions VERBALLY, as well as written, about what can be mixed (added/in addition to) and what NOT to mix.

When I was down with the wrist, they gave me a prescription analgesic and told me NOT to take anything else from over the counter, as it would "mess me up, BADLY".

Sadly, folk DON'T read, or ask questions. So, I'm not overly surprised that we have to be protected from ourselves. AND keep the lawyers in business. HOT coffee anyone?

I started taking Tylenol after asperin started making me sick (literally, I would forcefully eject asperin within minutes of taking it). Didn't matter that Tylenol didn't touch the migrain - neither did asperin. I kept taking 4 every hour until I passed out. Yeah, I knew it wasn't good for the liver, but it was better than chopping off my head!

Bogie--It sounds like you inherited my mother's allergy to aspirin. Her medical records noted that she was morbidly allergic to aspirin.

I didn't realize that Grandma had problems with asperin too.

Yep. I've known about the Tylenol thing for ages, since my Grandpa had an accident and had to be careful about how many he was taking.

Not rocket science.
