Spring Garden Sights

We are finally getting some color here at the Bogie spread. Actually we had this color at the end of April (don't ask me what it is, I have no clue):

I have placed the rest of the photos under the fold so as not to slow the loading of the "front page" later on.

All of these pictures were taken yesterday evening:

First off is something that I have no idea what it is. I see it every once in a while in a store or online, but forget to write down what it is :(

Daffodil_mt_hoodsm   Daffodil (Mount Hood, I think)

Bleeding_heartsm   Bleeding Heart

Although not in bloom, this rhodie shows what is in store later:

And last, but not least, there is color from leaves of some of the plantings:

Now, get out there and garden people!

You want me to go out to garden after being thoroughly shamed by comparison to your gorgeous blooms? *grumbling* I pulled weeds, this morning. Does that count? It is too wet to dig or I would finish digging up the new bed and planting strawberries.

Weeding counts as gardening, or at least tending the garden - close enough for me.

If you ever figure out what the beautiful purple blossoms are, above the fold, please let me know. I can hardly see that color; but, they are gorgeous!

The purple almost looks like an individual flower of a hyacinth. Or....perhaps it might be a variety of scilla or squill. Ours are blue, but there may be other shades I'm not familiar with.

You have incredible color for early spring! I love the caramel heuchera. I have one of the "Palace purple" varieties, in a much too sunny spot, but it comes back year after year.

I see you have a "bleeding heart." We're in awe over the one growing in my lower driveway bed. It's a magnificent plant, and it makes me want to add others into the gardens closer to the house.

Could the white plant be scabiosa or pincushion plant? I've seen it, but I've never grown one. If I figure it out, I'll let you know.

Beautiful garden color, Bogie!

I'm pretty sure that purple flower isn't a hyacinth. The white flower belongs to a low-growing plant that is sold as a ground cover type thing. I'm sure I'll figure it out as soon as I have a chance to visit Agway.

Maybe that putple flower is Iris reticulata - purple gem. Makes sense, I have some blue IR's that bloom about the same time. Not possitive about the ID though, I'll keep looking.

As an expert gardener (NOT), it would help me conceptualize the unknown plants if I had an idea about the size of the flowers. Although I have one iris that produces rather small blooms (the one that I wrote was dark wine--but--should have said is rootbeer colored), there is a big difference in my mind between the size of a hyacinth bloom and that of an iris. The white flowers look vaguely familiar, but I've not come up with anything like a name for it. I think that Mom H had the same thing in an orangish color.

For some mysterious reason, the comment that I left on your blog (and a couple of other blogs) didn't "take". I had asked the size of the purple blossom. I don't think of hyacinths and irises as producing blossoms that are in the same size range is why I ask. I also mentioned that the white blossoms seem familiar--as if my mom had grown whatever they are. My "remembrance" of her plants seem to have them in the orangy color range, though.

Now, that's wierd! Both of the comments now show up. This computer is trying to drive me mad, perhaps?

Iris reticulatta is a wild iris that is very small. It is only 4-6" tall with blooms to match its size.

Perhaps that is what my wierd little irises are, or perhaps not; but the blooms on my WLI are larger than any hyacinth blossom with which I am familiar. Now to the nagging: you still didn't tell me the size of your purple blossom. ; )

I have no idea. As I stated, the plant was 4-6" tall and the flowers commiserate. the plants are dead and gone, I can't do anything to help your obsession. Really, it is just a plant.

What kind of monster raised you that you can let a mystery go unsolved?!! I just did a classified memory erase...now...what were we talking about?

For Cop Car - Those white flowers are Candytuft (Iberis)

Thank you, Love.
