Cat Lover's Quiz
The local TV station has a quiz that tests your knowledge of cats (Are You Feline Friendly?). I got 9 out of 10 (I missed the name of the cat currently residing in the White House).
There was one question, that although I got the right answer, I would dispute because there is a North American mammal that equals (or surpasses) the task in question. Can you figure out the question I dispute and what is the other answer I came up with (which is not given as a possible answer)?
Maybe I should send the quiz to Acidman and Steve. Nah, one would complain that there were no questions pertaining to the best way to cook cats and the other one would ream me royally on his blog.

Well, since you brought it up, I actually already know how cat is prepared. I saw the instructional video on The Learning Channel a few years ago. Disclaimer: 1. Do not EVER try this at home. Don't even think about [Read More]

Can't find the quiz :( I wanted to see how feline friendly I am!

I fixed it - it helps when the actual URL is used instead of something else!

The new URL works better! You reign supreme, Bogie. Of the 5 on which I guessed, 2 were correct for a total score of 7. (I guessed correctly on the one about the White House cat.)

Cougar, Puma, Mountain Lion, whichever, on the question "What are large cats unable to do?"

Glad you asked Garrett. I was actually thinking og the question of the fastest land mammal.
The Cheetah's speed is generally accepted as somewhere between 60 and 70 MPH. Every source I have ever encounted says that the cheetah is the fastest mammel on Earth
But, with the same speed range (60-70 MPH), the North American pronghorn antelope is generally accepted as being the second fastest mammel on Earth. Both animals are also said to have some individuals that have been clocked at over 80 MPH.
Cheetahs can only run for about 1/4 mile. Pronghorns can maintain their top speed for 3 minutes or so (translation 3-4 miles). So who is really faster? I don't know, but I'm not ready to rule the cheetah as the "fastest" mammel.
Fastest carnivore, certainly. Fastest animal outside North America, most definitely. However, fastest mammel on land - I think there is some bias towards carnivores, so the establishment claims it is the cheetah. From what I have read, I think it is about a tie. If pitted against each other, sometimes the pronghorn would win, sometimes the cheetah.
I guess it really doesn't matter in terms of the quiz, since they didn't make us choose between the two - it just sort of caught my eye.

By the way, pronghorns originally developed their speed to elude cheetahs when they roamed North America (several thousand years ago).
And did you know that there are no living relatives of the pronghorn. I know, you don't care - I'm just an animal geek!

No, you are an Animal Facts Curator. Has a snazzy ring, don't you think?

Snazzy! A lot better than saying that I know all kinds of useless junk about animals.

By the way, I know that mammal is the correct spelling, my fingers seemed to get in a groove that I couldn't get out of!
